"Mom, Can I go check to see if Blossom came last night?" This is the question I get asked almost daily now from my 11 year old daughter.
Who is Blossom you ask?
Well, Blossom is her garden fairy that will visit during the night and leave my daughter notes and sometimes small gifts! You may be thinking, ‘Really? She is 11 years old and she believes in fairies?!’
My answer is YES and I LOVE it!!
It started about 4 months ago when she came home from school and told me that one of her best friends had made fairy houses that she put outside and that a fairy started to come and visit her. When my daughter heard that she asked me if she could build fairy houses and put them outside. Of course I said sure, and then immediately thought ‘okay, now I’ll have to remember to check the house for notes so that she can have a fairy visit her and leave her some special notes’.
You should have seen the smile on her face when she received her first note! It came from a garden fairy named Blossom (see how clever I was with the name!). From that moment on my daughter has written notes, made trinkets and has had so much fun communicating with Blossom. My daughter has even upgraded the fairy houses. She decided that for her next birthday she would ask for real fairy houses and accessories and has now created an entire fairy village, complete with a fairy mailbox, in one of my unused planters!

I know that some people do not believe in allowing their kids to believe in imaginary or magical things, but for me, it is a way to watch my kids’ imaginations run wild. For them to be free and escape from the stressors of life (yes, kids have stress too). It is a way for them to show their caring and giving spirit as they take time to write notes, ask questions, and make special gifts to give. We live in such a crazy world with so many unknowns and my kids are having to deal with things that I never had to or imagined anyone, let alone a child, would have to deal with, so for me, I will foster this friendship between my daughter and Blossom for as long as her imaginative, innocent and carefree heart desires!

* If you love this kind of thing keep an eye out this Fall for when I share what I do during Christmastime with special elf visitors. No, it’s not Elf on the Shelf but something I think is more Fun!!
